Disturbing news from NASA…and there seems to be very little being done about how to counteract the warming effect, especially from the federal side.
Check out this link to see the increased warming over the last 100 years…
The elephant in the room when I talk with people is – the consensus is increasingly saying that the world has to become carbon negative very soon in order to start stabilizing emissions. Many people understand the impact of climate change, but are not willing to do what it takes (I’ll admit, me included) to green our daily practices. The things we take granted – driving our car to work, buying that burger for lunch, heating our homes and office buildings, working on computers – all have climate inducing impacts. Multiple that by millions of people and buildings and computers, etc…, and you see the magnitude of the challenge facing us.
I hear people rationalize “I can’t change my lifestyle.” How do you tell people that for the good of the planet, they have to potentially reduce or eliminate things that they consider an everyday, normal part of life?
Outside of the plan by Stanford professor Marc Jacobson to transition to an all renewable society – which has been challenged by a number of scientists – how do we as a society move forward to head off what many scientists consider a slow-coming dire situation? Or is it not as serious as people say it is?
