Montreal dumps 2 billion gallons of raw sewage into St. Lawrence River – a harbinger of things to come?

This is really disappointing to see. This is unfortunate that Montreal got to this point. Who knows what effect this will have long-term. And the river connects to the Great Lakes so they could be affected negatively too.

Even more worrisome is could we see other American cities having to do this because of the country’s aging infrastructure? Washington DC having to dump into the Potomac? Memphis having to dump into the Mississippi? Cincinnati having to dump into the Ohio? As an environmentally conscious person I am very concerned.
