The Washington Post conducted an analysis of the nine largest subway systems on overall safety and reliability using federal transit data, and interestingly, the DC Metro system fell right into the middle of the pack. To be honest, if you are a regular rider of Metro, this issue does not change the fact that the majority of people like you feel the system is broken and is what some people have said is “going through a death spiral.” It speaks more to the neglect that the U.S. has placed on its aging transit systems. Unfortunately, I feel the country will continue to lag behind on transit system repairs until the situation becomes unsustainable to manage, unless there is some change of heart in transportation leadership.
